My name is Ashani – Ashani Karin Creighton & I’m missing!

My name is Ashani. I'M THIS MANY, one, two, three, four, five! FIVE. I’m five. Um. I live in New York with my mommy, but um I went to go visit my ganma and she lives far away. There were other kids there and my ganpa. But I missed my mommy really bad. I think I made ganma mad at me. Um I was scared, it was always so dark. I just, I just wanna go home to mommy. ganma said no. I was bad. I didn’t do nothin but um … um. I was scared. One day, one day everyone was excited there were boxes and stuff everywhere. I think we was moving. I didn’t feel so good though. Um. Um I don't rememba anything else....

(In 1998, the Jackson family moved from Florida to Oklahoma. In 2000, when the authorities arrested Ernest & Kaia Jackson, the non custodial grandmother and step-grandfather on unrelated child abuse charges, Ashani was no where to be found).

Hi, my name is Ashani Karin Creighton. I was born in August 1992. The picture above is me at age 5 about the time I went to live with my non custodial grandparents. The picture you see here is my age progressed photo, showing what I might look like at 15. No one has seen or heard from me since 1998. It’s possible I’m still in Florida, or Oklahoma, or it’s possible I’m somewhere entirely different. My grandmother and her husband got rid of me, or lost me. It’s evident that they don’t care, because no one has ever told the authorities where I am. I doubt I ever went to school. Honestly, if I’m still alive I don’t know that my cognitive skills are this advanced to be speaking with you now. Most people don’t believe I’m alive. My grandparents and my mother’s siblings have a close knit community surrounding them, people know things, and someone out there might even care about me. Do you know where I am? It doesn’t matter if I’m alive or not. Can you just tell them where I am? If I’m alive, you might be saving me; if I’m dead you’ll be letting me fly with Jesus without the burden of being lost and continuing to flutter in this existence. I would like to go home now, it’s been long enough.

My name is Rebel J. Morris and I’m the narrator. Ashani and so many other lost children remind me of the line from the movie, Parenthood spoken by Keanu Reeves character “you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.” It’s sad that through the years so many children have suffered abuse by family members, or others. It turns my stomach as it did Keanu’s character that we let our children suffer, slip away and become forgotten.

To Rebel J. Morris:
I've been reading this site for a couple days now, and I thought WHO is writing these so well. It really gives you the human element of these missing or lost human souls. Thank you. I wish we didn't have to even read about them, but we will always have to, unfortunetly. I just hope it doesn't happen to someone I know or even me. I also hope one day I can identify someone. Thank you again. It's alot better than what the papers publish. One of the things I hate the most about newpapers is 'it may be gang related'.

Thank you for your kind words about the blog. I appreciate that you and so many others take the time to work these cases in the hopes to bring just one person home, identified and laid to rest in peace.

All my best my dear friend.

This is unbelievably sad and it makes me, frankly, wonder what special reason God entrusts children to unfit parents, while so many others can't have children of their own. But may He use one or more of us to post and circulate this poor child's story in the hope that the person who holds the key to solving her case will see it here and provide the information that will identify her.
