Wanda Doe – Something Ain't Right!

I know all about the 'Code of Silence'. Nobody saw anything, nobody knows anything and – most of all – nobody says anything...but I need your help. (Please?) Will you be the person who can put the pieces together to give me back my identity? Do you have that all-important bit of information...and the courage to come forward?

On April 4, 1995, Atlanta police found me behind a crack house at 380 Atwood Street, buried in a shallow grave. I had been dead for several days and they aren't able to say how I died. Was I just passing by and witnessed something I shouldn't have seen, or was I possibly a customer? In any case, I surely didn't deserve such a grisly, anonymous ending!

What did I look like? Well, they say I could have been between 13 and 30 years old but was most likely a teenager. I was 5'7” or 5'8”, 140 pounds with brown eyes and dark brown, tightly curled hair that was cut very short (maximum length of 3 inches). My ears were pierced and I had a large gap between my two upper front teeth. I was an African American female. When they found me, I was wearing a size 16 light blue t-shirt with short sleeves, Bugle Boy jeans with a drawstring and elastic waist (color faded) with a 30-inch waist and 32 inches in length. My shoes were black, size 6 and a half, Adidas Dynaprene and my underwear (if it's anybody's business) was multi-colored with Tweety Bird on it. The label read “That's all, folks”. Kind of appropriate, I guess.

What really makes me mad is that someone (or several someones) knew enough about me to tell investigators that I may have used the name 'Wanda' – and that I often hung around the Ashby, Dill and Beecher Street areas. But that was all they knew. Was I a local? If so, why won't my friends step up and do the right thing: give me back my name? Something about that just ain't right!

Even if you can't tell them who I am or what happened to me, you can still help! Please pass my picture and my story along to everyone; you just never know who might hold that missing piece!
