Maria Doe – Not So Heavenly

Forensic Artist: Deborah Goff

Aye caramba! My shirt may have read ‘Beary Heavenly’, but being dead without anyone knowing who I am is not heavenly at all! On September 27, 2008, my skeletal remains were found in the woods, in a remote section of western Calhoun County, South Carolina. I was wearing a black cotton nightgown with a teddy bear pictured on the front, along with the words ‘Beary Heavenly’. Kind of ironic, isn’t it?

What else do they know about me, you ask? Well, they know that I was a Hispanic female between the ages of 25 and 40. I stood between 5’4” and 5’9” tall and it’s unclear how much I weighed. All my molars were intact. They believe my name might be Maria. When I was found, I was wearing a leather cuff-type bracelet with ‘Maria’ embossed on it. Of course, I was also wearing the nightgown, which told the investigators that whatever happened to me very likely happened at home or in a very private setting - not out in public. The investigators believe that I was murdered. They said I was probably in the place where I was found for at least 18 months (or longer), as my remains were covered with several layers of pine straw.

The investigators also believe that I may have had at least one child. Shouldn’t that mean that someone out there is missing me, looking for me? Forensic artists have been able to create a reconstruction of my face. Please look at it carefully. Do I look like someone you used to know…someone who may have just suddenly stopped coming into your place of business or was no longer seen on the street where you live? Maybe you can tell investigators who I am, and once they know that, they are one step closer to figuring out exactly what happened to me - and who killed me. For me, what would be ’beary heavenly’ now would simply be to have my name back. Are you the one who can help me?

Isabel Doe: This Wasn't Supposed To Happen!

Why am I dead? I took such good care of myself! I watched my weight, had my nails done, my ears double-pierced, my hair highlighted – and when I needed surgery to stay healthy, well I had that, too! So how did I end up in a ditch in the middle of nowhere, without even the dignity of the clothes on my back? It just doesn't make sense!

They say I was Hispanic (or possibly bi-racial) and I was young. People are not supposed to die in their early to mid-thirties, but sadly, someone made that choice for me. I was found on May 24, 1995 in a ditch on Cottonhall Road, near the border of Yemassee, South Carolina. They are fairly sure I was killed somewhere else twenty four hours earlier and dumped there; nice, huh?

I had reddish brown hair and brown eyes and at 5'3”, I weighed 120 pounds. (See, I took care of myself!) I had two scars: one from a hysterectomy and the other (on my lower neck) from thyroid surgery.

So...who am I? Police feel that learning my identity might lead them straight to my killer. Was I somebody's wife or girlfriend? Or maybe even...someone's mother? Did I go to school with you, or possibly sit next to you at the nail salon? Even the tiniest bit of information might be just what they need to bring my killer to justice...and to allow me to finally rest in peace, with my name and my dignity restored.

Charlie T -1993 Male found in Florence, South Carolina

For now you can call me Charlie T. I think that's a cool name, at least until a cyber sleuth or some cop, pins a real name on me.

My story is this -- on November 19, 1993, in a wooded area off the 1-95 near Hwy 327 someone found me. Well they found my body. The Medical University of South Carolina determined my death was caused by a gunshot to the head on or about November 18 or November 19 of 1993.

I believe myself to be a pretty good guy. I'm described as being 35 to 55 years of age, 5'10" to 6'0", and about 160 to 180 lbs. Oh yeah, I had dark receding hair with brown eyes. I didn't have any facial hair, nor scars. I've had extensive dental work with a partial plate, and my fingerprints are on file.

I was wearing a funny T shirt that day. I guess not that funny seeing as how I was shot. But the shirt read "Your Weapon Is Your Best Friend" and under the picture it continued to say "It's the only thing around here that doesn't yell at me." So either I had a good sense of humor or I was trying to give a message. -- Did I shoot myself? Or was I shot by someone else?

Ok so if you are my family -- what's the hold up? eh? I'm waiting around for you. No pun intended!

What about my partial plate -- can't a DDS tell them who I am?

Oh yea and my fingerprints are on file -- so I guess I'm not a thug, because the prints didn't match anyone or they weren't run through the system lately. So why doesn't someone push for my fingerprints to be run through the system again.

As for my family -- seriously come forward and claim me. I like the temp name of Charlie T, but no matter how bad my past was, I'd much prefer to be properly identified.

What about you! Do you recognize me? Was I your neighbor? Your class mate in school years earlier? Your co-worker or employee? Anyone?
