Noble & Ready

The name Alfonso means noble and ready. It might not be my given name, but it’s a good description of me. Noble means having or showing fine personal qualities: I’m betting waiting patiently for a prolonged period of time qualifies as noble. And I’m sure you can guess I’m definitely ready. I’m ready for you to figure out who I am.

Where it all started: for you, it all started on February 1, 1970, in Saugerties, Ulster County, New York, right off a public highway, not far from the NYS Thruway. That is where they found me and where the story begins for you.

Two children sledding near Plate Cove Road found a frozen body lying in the snow. That frozen body was me. I had been shot four times in the back of my head. The cops declared my death a “gang-land style slaying.” The story of my murder made the local newspapers throughout the 1970s. See, I didn’t have any identification with me and they were unable to identify me. Even today, people around the country are puzzled by what happened that day and who I am.

The investigation into my death and who I am took the cops around the world. They had reason to believe I might have been “foreign born.” They came up with this because of my ethnicity/looks, my possessions, the way I was murdered, and probably other reasons they never, even till this day, have disclosed. Regardless of how many countries they searched, and which databases the FBI or Interpol used, they were not able to come up with any information on me. They even questioned numerous members of organized crime, hoping the mobsters would identify me in exchange for helping them, to no avail.

How can you help? Well, if you know of any missing 35 to 45 year old, white European men from that time period, who had dark brown wavy hair with a bald spot, who stood about 5'3" and weighed about 155 pounds, you might know me. That would be how you could help. A little more information that might help you to help me: I was wearing a grey European style suit over pajamas. I had a gold Omega watch made by a company in Portugal. I was also wearing a gold ring with a red stone also made in Portugal. Now you know what I look like and what possessions I had with me that fateful night in February 1970.

The funny thing about this story, the one that’s about to end for you, is the cops thought for certain someone eventually would talk. They believed that one day the Mafia would finally give up my identity. Yeah, that’s a real kicker, seeing as how it’s been forty-one years and so far not one of those wiseguys has cracked. Maybe a deathbed confession some point over the next twenty years might still be possible: but is it realistic?

Eric Doe – It’s my time!

I’ve been waiting around for a long time. The view from here is distant and cold. I’m stuck in this zone. I’m not moving forward. I’m not moving backwards. This zone is in between, distant and cold. This probably angers many people right now. People who want to believe in the afterlife. Listen, I’m not saying there isn’t an afterlife. I’m simply saying that right now I’m stuck in this zone. Don’t be angry. If anyone should be angry it should be me. Right?

Every day that passes is another day that my family has no idea what happened to me. There’s a chance I’ve been missing for thirty years. The worse part of that is there’s a chance I’ve been dead most of that time. You might be wondering how that’s possible. I know I am.

March 2004 my human remains were found by a driver who lost control of her car. Can you believe that? It gets better. So in March of 2004 this woman, a new driver, makes this illegal u-turn in Plainview, New York and ends up near me! She had the misfortune to get messed up and her day got better when she found a dead guy! You have to feel a little bad for her. I’m sure she’ll never make another illegal u-turn again officer. Anyway, it’s a good thing she came along. Turns out, I’d been waiting ten to twenty some years to be found. That’s right count them ten to twenty plus years that my bones were sitting there off that utility road waiting, just waiting for someone to make a wrong turn. Thankfully on that March day she did.

Okay now what? You found me. Who am I? The authorities will tell you that I’m a white possibly Hispanic male. I stood between 4’11 and 5’4. I was thin with a 26” waist line. They guess I was about 35 to 45 years old. My clothes were still there, turns out I was wearing “a red members only waist length jacket imported into the USA in the spring of 1982, tan pleated canvass bell bottom pants, a button down white shirt with an orange and blue striped pattern and a 1960 gold Bulova watch” according to Empire State News. Does that help you figure out who I am?

This cold case sleuthing group has some smart people over there and they realize that I probably didn’t die prior to 1982. That’s of course assuming that I bought my Members Only jacket new here in the United States, since that’s when it was imported. What if I bought it somewhere else? What if I was imported, not my jacket? Where could I have been from? “When you put it on, something happens,” is the tagline for the Members Only jacket. In my case, I put it on and well we know what happened. The jacket was manufactured as early as 1975. It’s possible I could be from the United States or Europe or anywhere in between.

The coins in my pocket were from 1974. Not sure what that tells you. Let me give you an example. Pull some coins out of your pocket and tell me what date they say. Then consider the year you are reading this. Do they match?

Nearby me was a hair pick. This tells everyone I might have had an afro. It could also tell you that it wasn’t my pick. Maybe it belonged to someone else who was in the area. Maybe even the person who left me there. Also nearby was a wallet with an oil company logo on it. According to the Long Island Press the cops looked into the oil company for potential employee match to no avail. So there’s a hair pick and a wallet that may or may not have belonged to me.

Why my remains were placed off that utility road is something that only time will reveal. Most everything will become clear when you find my identity. Find out who I am, tell my family and bury me so I can finally, after all these years, rest in peace. Not much to ask, right?

Sam Doe – Dock Worker? Locksmith? Janitor?

Can you imagine spending twenty years dead before someone finds your remains? Sounds pretty bad! You know what’s worse? Going over forty years dead and no one knows who you are, your identity.

I guess it could be funny. You know if you were a criminal and always running from the law you probably didn’t want folks to know your name. But even criminals don’t think, don’t realize, wouldn’t consider that a man could go forty plus years without a name – unintentionally. It’s possible though. It’s very plausible actually. Take my story for instance.

Oh wait, I can’t tell you my story. For my story you’d have to know my name. And you don’t. So now what?

How about I tell you a short story instead?

On September 14, 1991, in a swamp off Eaton Lake, State Hill, town of Greenville, Orange County, New York a set of human remains were discovered. It was determined the remains belong to a white male approximately 55 to 65 years old, who formerly stood 5’8, who suffered from osteophytosis or in laymen’s terms bone spurs, and had extensive dental work done. He was wearing blue trousers; yellow, long-sleeved, fitted shirt; blue knit socks and shoes and a knit sweater with assorted buttons. There was also a pair of wing tipped shoes discovered. He carried a black, plastic wallet in the right, back trouser pocket.
Along with the remains some personal items were discovered: A black, plastic, memo book cover, U.S. coins dating from 1964 through 1972, a vinyl, gym-type bag, a T-shirt, a Dynabeat Timex electric watch with a rubber wristband, six keys with binding numbers G33221 and G39241 (possibly part of a master key program) and eye-glasses. The eyeglasses were imprinted with the name of Orange County optician D. J. Riehle. The bifocals were manufactured by Swank Opticians, between 1974 and 1978, based on the prescription: R-1.00\I-1.00 A+2.75 which is a common prescription for near-slightness.
These remains belong to me and remain unidentified.

It’s been estimated that I died sometime between 1971 and 1981. You are reading this in what year? You do the math. It’s been a long time.

Now you don’t know that I was criminal. It was just a way to make a point. You don’t know that I wasn’t a criminal. You don’t know who I was. That’s the point!

It’s about time someone figured out who I was. Don’t you think forty years is a tad too long to go without your identity, unintentionally?

CHARLES DOE – Where Am I?

The bottom of a 25-foot embankment near the Long Path Rest Area, Bear Mountain State Park, 1/4 a mile east of State Route 6. Town of Woodbury, NY, Orange County is where volunteers found fully dressed skeletal remains.

On May 3, 1998, the Ramapo Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club while volunteering near the Long Mountain Rest area of Route 6 found those skeletal remains wrapped in plastic. Like I mentioned, the deceased was fully dressed.

The full dressed skeleton was wearing:

  • A black t shirt with the design of a rainbow leading to a pot of gold, inscribed with Follow Your Dreams.
  • A blue zippered sir Jac Jacket.
  • Blue or black jeans with 32 inch waist and a 32 inch inseam.
  • Blue boxer shorts
  • White low-top Pony sneakers
And had the following items:
  • Hair pick,
  • French/ English dictionary,
  • Metal nail file
  • Yellow “Bic” lighter
An interesting side note is that the low top pony sneakers were out of style. Maybe the deceased didn’t know fashion. But turns out the rest of the world knows fashion because everyone keeps mentioning those shoes. Maybe it’s a clue to who this person is.

Turns out the skeletal remains belong to a black man, twenty five to thirty five years old. He stood anywhere from 5’6 to 5’11 feet. That’s a pretty large range on height. But what do I know? Also it’s noted this guy was knock kneed. It’s estimated this skeletal guy could have been lying around there since 1985.

Here’s the most interesting fact about this guy, he had been shot to death. Okay that’s not really interesting, but he was killed by two different caliber guns. I guess there was more than one assailant. That sounded like an interesting fact to me.

So this fully dressed skeletal guy remains unidentified. You think I’m disrespectful for referring to this man as skeletal remains? Good because these skeletal remains belong to me and I think it’s disrespectful to be unidentified!

I’ve now been dubbed Charles Doe and Follow Your Dreams Doe and John Doe. But it’s time to find my real identity. A name that’s not too much to ask for is it? Well not just any name. Seems everyone is ready to give me just any name. No, I want my name. Here’s another clue if you didn’t notice above. I had a French/ English dictionary.

Alright you now know the details the rest of the world knows. So how are you going to be different than the rest of world? How about you help me? Find my identity and that will make you different!
