Joanie Doe: I’m known for my orange socks.

One method of travel for me was hitchhiking. My life wasn’t the pretty picture you like to hear about when you think of young white girls in their 20’s. I wasn’t a model. I wasn’t a debutante. I wasn’t a college bookworm. No, my life wasn’t anything like those girls’.

I owned very little. I wore orange socks. My toenails were long because I didn’t have clippers to cut them. My legs were unshaven because I didn’t have a razor to shave them. I rarely had water to bathe properly. I may have exchanged favors for food, rides, or money. I had untreated gonorrhea. Perhaps I was mistreated and that’s what set me on the road. I was young. I was alone. I was trying to survive.

The question is was I hitchhiking in Oklahoma when a man named Henry Lee Lucas picked me up? He stated he bought me lunch then had unsatisfying sex with me, which led to him to strangling me to death. After which, he then had unsatisfying sex with me again. He claims he dumped me in a culvert off the “IH35 southbound toward San Antonio.” He remembered this because he injured his knee on the guardrail. He also told them he thought my name was Joanie or Judy. This convicted serial killer later recanted his statement about killing me.

Another possibility, one that makes people scratch their heads, is that I wasn’t picked up by this serial killer in Oklahoma. Instead, according to an anonymous caller, I was seen hitchhiking near Georgetown, Texas on the day of my murder.

The complete truth is unknown. They did find me dead, by strangulation, dumped in a culvert. There was even evidence my body was dragged, possibly over a freeway guardrail.

The reality is that I was a 20-something-year-old woman who stood 5'8", weighed 135 pounds, had red hair and hazel eyes, and I was murdered on October 31, 1979. My body was found in culvert near Georgetown, Williams County, Texas. I was only wearing my orange socks and have since been dubbed “Orange Socks.”

Here one day, gone the next.

The caption pretty much says it all. One day life was good. I was surrounded by family, maybe even co-workers, enjoying a normal day. Then one day - just like that - I was gone.

Today, I remain unknown to the state of Texas. See, one day they found my remains. Remains: that’s what they call it when they find you deceased. They find your remains. Remains are what is left of you after your human life form dies and your soul, spirit or inner being moves on to another plane. At least that’s what people want to believe. They want to believe you move on after you die. Well, I’m not here to answer that one way or another. Actually, we got a bit sidetracked. See, we’re talking about how they found my remains.

Somewhere in the county of Montague, Texas, someone stumbled across my body. See, little information was given on exactly how that transpired. Slightly odd, if you ask me! But nonetheless it’s a fact. So, on August 10, 1981, my lifeless remains were found. Here’s the kicker: they couldn’t identify me. Sure, they ran all the normal processes for 1981 to try and figure out who I was. Yet, it was to no avail. They simply couldn’t figure out who I was. So here I am 30 years later, still without identity. I’m one of those unidentified folks you’re starting to hear more about. It would be nice, though, if someone could identify me.

Here’s what I can tell you. I can tell you that I was a male who was about 30 to 40 years old. I might have been Native American or just a good old white boy. I stood about 5’10” but my weight is not known. My hair was brown, yet the color of my eyes are unknown. Sort of makes you wonder what the heck happened to me, doesn’t it? But, I digress. I may have worn upper dentures. And I was found wearing brown polyester flared-leg pants with blue stripes.

There is one more fact that is on the record. They believe I died about two months before I was found on August 10, 1981.

What happened to me? How did I get where I was found? Those facts remain unclear. At this point, they’re as unclear as who I am. But know this: I am somebody. I was somebody. It’s time somebody figures out who exactly I am.

Everyone has family. Isn’t mine entitled to know what happened to me?

What’s better: Ms Bones or Jane Doe?

I’ve been called Jane Doe, Ms. Bones, Miss Bones and I’m sure a few other names in the process of trying to figure out who I am. The name Bones doesn’t really seem considerate. I’m surprised they didn’t name me Bones Doe. I guess they’ll leave that unfortunate name for some unidentified male. When you die and they don’t know your name they saddle you with some unfortunate semi-descriptive name. In my case, my bones happened to be housed in boxes shuffled from office to office while they tried to figure out who I am. Hence, Ms. Bones.

In the process of shuffling me around, they did learned that I was a Caucasian female, 20 to 25 years old, who stood between 5'3" and 5'6" and weighed approximately 110 to one 130 pounds.

Right about now, you might be wondering how I ended up as bones in boxes on a coroners shelf. Well, brace yourself: on October 1, 1985, a road crew was mowing a ditch area near Interstate 20 in Smith County, Texas when they ran the mower over my body. One investigator was quoted as saying, “The contact scattered bones far and near.” However, we have to chin up and strive forward. You now know why my bones are in boxes on a shelf. The good thing is they gathered enough of me to give you that approximate aforementioned description of me.

In addition to finding me, they found a wadded pile of clothes that rested near me. One item in particular, a shirt, has caught interest of my advocate. On a side note, yes I have an advocate, her name is Betty. She found the shirt very interesting. The shirt was a yellow pullover with an armadillo on it and the phrase "Top Rail Country Music, Dallas, Texas". Plus it had a lace collar. Betty tracked down the club where the shirts were sold. Then she found the actual individual who ordered all the promotional clothing and he said they were never made with a lace collar. It’s very interesting and might hold some significance. The shirt was not the only item they found. I also had white Dickie shorts and canvas sandals. For the record, I was also wearing gold butterfly earnings and a gold watch.

Additionally, they found red hair fibers at the scene. My hair and eye color vary from source to source, but mainly the hair color reads as brown. If my hair color is brown, what are the red hair fibers that were found at the scene? Another important note is they believe that I could have been deceased up to 18 months prior to my run-in with the mowing crew. It was unfortunate for me that my skeleton was scattered by the mowing crew. Kind of a good news/bad news situation for me. If the mowing crew hadn't found me, I could have been left out there alone longer – but they didn't see me in enough time to avoid scattering and shattering my bones into pieces.

Many law enforcement investigators have worked to try and figure out who I am. One of the former investigators went on to teach at a local college, others retired and many still work on finding the answers today. Law Enforcement is not doing this alone. I have my own advocate, Betty. Betty is working tirelessly, scouring through missing persons photos to try and find me.

It’s funny thinking how I’m found and lost at the same time. Then again, no; it’s not all that funny. I’m not the only box of bones on a shelf in a coroner's office. You can ask Betsy James Cooper, right here at Can You Identify Me? -- the good people who are bringing you my story. She knows of many others like me who are lost and found at the same time. You can also ask the thousands of family members who search for their loved ones everyday, they know about those who are lost and found. Those family members just want to find their loved one, like I want to find my loved ones. I’d like my real identity back now.

Who is Helen Ayala?

My right pocket liner was inscribed Ayala, Helen. Who was that? Did I know her? Did she know me? Or is it just some coincidence that my right pocket liner contains the name Helen Ayala?

This is probably a good time to introduce myself. Wait, that’s the problem. The reason I’m here on this site is because I can’t introduce myself. Two reasons I’m here actually. One is I’m deceased and the other is you don’t know my name. It’s hard to tell a story with an introduction when the deceased individual has no name. To wit, I’m unidentified and only known as case number CC-010-95.

What can you call me? My belt buckle was inscribed with the letter S. They think I’m a Hispanic male in my twenties. Assuming I died around the time they found me on March 14, 1986, I was probably born sometime around 1966. What were popular male names in the Hispanic community in the mid sixties? Let’s see, could it have been Salvador or Sergio? Maybe the S stood for the first initial of my last name? Maybe it could be Suarez, Sanchez, Salas, Sandoval, or Santana? There are many first and last names that start with S. The sad part is that my belt buckle may not have anything to do with my name. Alas, until you know otherwise you can call me S Doe.

When I was found near State Hwy 121 and Rowland Creek in Collin County Texas I was wearing a J Riggens brand baseball type jacket. In Dallas County there was a J Riggens Men’s Clothing Wear. Maybe I worked for them? Maybe I frequented one of their stores and purchased a lot of their clothes? Turns out Collins County where I was found deceased is part of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. There is a connection from Dallas County men’s clothing store and the jacket I was wearing, right? Here’s another mystery for someone to figure out.

I’ve told you about the name in my pocket liner. I’ve told you about my belt buckle. I’ve told you about my jacket. I’ve told you about when I was found, where I was found and about how old I was when I died. What don’t you know? I had brown eyes, black hair, weighed about 152 pounds and stood about five feet eight inches tall. Also I had two brown knit gloves and a brown string necklace with a cross on it.

Turns out that in March of 1986 I was shot several times. Those gun shots were end of my life. Yet, I’m determined to help you find out about the rest of my life. There has to be a way for you to find out more about me. Maybe Helen is a clue? Maybe the letter S is a clue? Maybe J Riggens clothing store in Dallas County is a clue? You have a lot of information that might help lead me to my family. I just need the right one of you out there to put all this information together and find my family, my identity. I know that someone out there can make this happen. I’m determined. You be determined too.

Is my name Mindi?

On January 1, 1984 my remains were found in a wooded area near FM 1135, just south of Interstate 10 and Hwy 1132 overpass. It’s possible that the cause of death was decapitation. More than likely I was killed elsewhere and dumped here, on this man’s property.

However, he didn’t find my remains for a year or more after I had been dumped here.

My remains the remains that were found were for a girl between the fourteen to eighteen years of age. My height was probably 4’10 to 5’2. They know that I was white and had brown hair, but are unable to give an estimated weight or eye color. They can determine that the victim (me) had probably worn braces at some point, but no braces were found. I was also found with a terry cloth short sleeved shirt.

So I’m dead. I have been since 1984. No one ever claimed me! They could never identify me! I’m one of the many who remain a mystery unsolved, or am I?

"A.M.A.L.P MINISTRY (aka) America's Missing,Abducted and Lost Persons of Orange County, Texas are PRAYING daily that this PRECIOUS little girl, this young lady will be recognized and identified. Their hearts go out each day with prayers knowing that she IS someone's child, that she had dreams and desires for a future that never came to pass. They want someone to stand up and claim this child, give her back her identity allow her the ability to finally rest in peace."

Princess Rose Mary

The author is calling me Princess Rose Mary, I kinda like that. Why shouldn't I be a princess. Yes, I am. I'm a princess!

Someone removed me from my throne. How rude. The sad part is that there were three other princesses that also suffered throne removal or something.

By now, you probably realized I'm dead and someone killed me. Well this pathetic excuse for a person not only took my life, but the life of three others. Or so the police speculate.

I digress, let's get back to me. I was found in a field in the 3000 block of Calder Road, League City, Texas, on February 2, 1986. I didn't die this day. I died a couple weeks prior. Also, you should know that they found me with healed wounds that I suffered sometime prior to death, but those didn't kill me.

They say I'm 22 to 30 years old. You probably figured out I'm a woman. I'm white. I had light reddish brown hair. They didn't disclose my actual weight must be due to my royalty status. So they said that I have a small frame and short stature. However, those people at DoeNetwork investigated and discovered I was 5'5 to 5'8 and 140 to 160 lbs. I won't be offended they posted that information, but grateful as it might help someone recognize me. My dental information is available for comparison; however, you can note that I have a noticeable gap between my front teeth.

My understanding is there might be a reward for any information that leads to an arrest in my death or the others.

Listen, I like being known as Princess. But I want my family to know what happened to me. I want a proper burial with my ACTUAL NAME on the tombstone. So please help me. If you know who I am, call the police and tell them. You don't have to give your name really. If you don't know me, but want to help me TELL MANY PEOPLE. Send this post to as many people as you know and ask them to do the same. Maybe, just maybe, someone will know me. Please, please HELP ME.

Thanks

Why Me? Mr. Grande

Hello you can call my Juan Luis. When you learn my real name, we can change it and notify my family.

I was found dead in 1987. August 16th, 1987, someone discovered my cold body in Houston, Harris County, Texas. I'm angry. It is estimated that I was 23 to 28 years old. I have reason to be angry. My whole life was ahead of me. Why me?

I had black hair, brown eyes, I was about 5' 4 " - 5' 6 " and weighed about 132 lbs. - 142 lbs. I was wearing Wrangler Jeans, white jockey shorts with "Mr. Grande" and "Hohecho, New Mexico" written on them.

Also I had, scars on chin, chest, left knee, right thigh and right foot. I wonder if I had these before I was dead. Why am I dead? They say it's unknown. Why? Why me?

Do you know the 915 Northwoods at Montie Beach Park, Houston, Texas? Doe network says that's where I was. Well my cold body was. I need to rest now. Can you help me? Do you know me? Can you tell my family what happened to me? First tell me who I am! Thank you.

Please tell them who I am:
